This
Thomas Church property is such a wonderful hideaway. The garden is typical
Church, with wide lawns, well placed trees, and low maintenance attitudes.
The owners adore English gardens, but like so many Brits are very thrifty,
and we were able to keep all landscaping in place while we added a new
feature. A corner of the garden was developed along an old path accessible
from the kitchen door, as well as becoming a central view from the home
and guest house, that features a traditional formal fountain, parterres
with perennials and annuals, framed by dwarf boxwoods, and topiaries.
The backdrop is a false perimeter line created by a laurel hedge to
create privacy from a neighboring home. The path behind the hedge creates
a bit of mystery as one discovers a shade garden along a way in to the
wonderful vegetable and cut flower garden at the back of the property.
